Yes I am trying to install Age of Empires III and the image below is the error message I am getting.

Have tried running the troubleshoot compatibility utility but to no avail.

That was made for Windows XP and Microsoft isn't going to make a patch for it.

Maybe it is time to purchase a new version that is made to work with Windows 10?

I would do but Microsoft have put the end of December 2018 as the release date for the next instalment of Age of Empires. I signed up for the Beta program for the AOE and as such thought I would re-install AOE 3 on my new PC with Windows 10.

A program that old, especially a game, isn't guaranteed to install.

Does the Age Of Empires website have forums or support where you can ask them about running it on Windows 10? Seems like they would be much more knowledgable than us.

Download Age Empire 3 Full Game Version

- If you are having problems installing try copying all files from the disk to a folder on your desktop. Run the installation from the

setup in that folder. You can delete this folder after installing the game.

If copying the files to the desktop fails, the disk may be bad.

- The original disk based version of AOE 3 runs well on Win10, if you install the original patches and have Legacy Components >

Direct Play enabled (Programs and Features > Turn Windows Features On or Off ).

I have no compatibility options enabled (Main game and Asian Dynasties), but if any were to help XP sp2 would be the go.

I also have patch version 1.13 but don't recall if 1.14 is cumulative.

You need the patches for any expansions you have as well.

- If an expansion pack fails to load try loading the main game first. Exit the main game, and the expansion should load

on your next attempt.

You can get the game on Steam, where it should work perfectly for Windows 10. (It does for me)

I thought you had to purchase the game before they would give you the install file. I need the install file that is compatible with Windows 10 so I can enter in my already purchased product key.

You do. Steam does not download install files. Steam downloads and installs the game once the transaction is completed,

and you give the go ahead to install. You don't normally get a product key when you purchase directly from Steam.

- When you buy a game from the Humble Store and perhaps some other sites (Windows store ? ) you are given a product key

that you have to use on Steam before Steam will begin downloading and installing your game.

- There are also a small number of disk based games that used the dread Games For Windows Live which Steam will acceptthe product key from in exchange for a Steam download version, but AOE3 is not one of them.

The disk based version of AOE3 works perfectly on Win10 too. There should be no need to buy it again from Steam.
